Major projects launched amid pandemic

Despite impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tstingtao Brewery recently started the construction of three major projects, as its latest effort for industrial upgrading and resources integration, with the aim of achieving high-quality leapfrog development.

The expanding of a 1 million-kiloliter facility in Tsingtao’s Pingdu intelligent industrial park, the expanding and upgrading of Tsingtao’s demonstration plant for intelligent manufacturing, and the Tsingtao craft beer brewery in the West Coast New Area, all kicked off on March 10, have total investment of more than 1 billion yuan ($152 million).

The Pingdu industrial park is designed to become an intelligent industrial cluster. The newly-started expanding project of the Tsingtao Third Brewery in the park is expected to complete by June, when it will have an annual production capacity of 1 million kiloliter of beer, becoming the largest beer production center in Asia.

Apart from the brewery itself, the industrial park also has businesses ranging from malt and yeast processing to logistics, customized production, packaging and tourism, forming an industrial chain to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Pingdu Mayor Zhao Xingji said the high efficiency of Tsingtao’s expansion project embodies the company’s prowess and sense of responsibility, and will contribute to the economic recovery and growth of Pingdu.

Tsingtao’s demonstration plant for intelligent manufacturing has introduced a world-class intelligent production line, an industry-leading smart packaging line, a centralized control system a production line monitoring system, and an automated warehouse, to establish an intelligent logistics system covering the supply, production, delivery and product tracing sectors.

The project “will provide digitized solutions to meet customized demands, allowing various types of products sharing the same production line”, said Meng Qingshang, head of Tsingtao Brewery.

The project in the West Coast New Area is not just a craft beer production and research facility, but also a craft beer-themed tourist destination, the first of its kind nationwide.

The project, when complete, will allow experience of world top craft beer brewers’ products and introduce the achievements of Tsingtao’s national key laboratory to the customers, helping to build a “beer festival that never ends” in the West Coast New Area.

The combination of craft beer and tourism symbolizes Tsingtao’s persistent effort to integrate modern manufacturing and modern service, and the business model will be promoted nationwide, said Zhu Junhai, president of Tsingtao Beer Culture Communication Co.

“The three new projects have covered businesses including smart manufacturing, smart logistics, tourism and high-end consumption,” said Tsingtao Beer Co Ltd Chairman Huang Kexing. “Following the trends of technological revolution, industrial transformation and consumption upgrading, we will continue to build intelligent industrial platforms, create an interconnected beer ecosystem.”
